TOP STORY UPDATED: Singapore O-Level and A-level Result out already. When will Brunei’s?

Monday; Jan 10/01/2012, The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education ordinary level (GCE O-level) has been released and soon the Singapore’s A-Level results . In Brunei’s case, from the CIE Website they have reports saying it will be released on Monday 23rd January 2012 at 00.01 UK Time . Results can be issued to candidates as soon as they become available on CIE Direct. Schools will receive hard copies of results approximately 10 days after the results release date.

As result will be coming out there will be issues concerning the practices made by the stakeholders.

One of it is the practice of pre-paid messaging to get results. It is widely critised by the students and the public as they think the mobile operators are taking advantage out of them. People think it is unfair as some others who have contacts inside the government can readily release information to the selected few other students. Students wonder where did their mobile credit dollars go to. Some are also thinking that its highly unreasonable for local operators to charge excessively just for O-level and A-level results. Each SMS Costs about BND$3.00. Multiply it with the number of students willing to pay for them, it could reach upwards to thousands of dollars. Students Money.

Furthermore, some were uneasy of how some school ineffectively handles the situation. As it could created unnecessary delays of the results in some parts of the School. While others are released some have yet. This adds further frustrations and stress the students will face. Currently most of the O-level students are attending college right now and this will cause huge discussions and anxiety among them. Same goes to the A-Level students. It is one of the most worrying moment that one can feel. “If Singapore’s result has come out then Brunei will follow but how much longer?” one local student voiced out.

UCIE Website they have reported saying that examination results will be released on Monday 23rd January 2012 at 00.01 UK Time . Results can be issued to candidates as soon as they become available on CIE Direct. Schools will receive hard copies of results approximately 10 days after the results release date.

Special Thanks to Ka Yong Lau from MDPMAMB for the amazing information update.

  1. Well, Singapore has it’s own local examination syndicate in which runs “independently” of the standard O/A level examinations. It’s more of a collaboration between the Singapore Examination Board and the Cambridge International Exams Pte Ltd. As you may have not known, Singaporean students sit for exams with entirely different paper code numbers though they may have taken the same subjects.

One reason why results may have came out earlier in Singapore may be due to the fact that it’s marked locally and exams are made available only to students in Singapore. On the other hand, students in Brunei sit for an “international” paper meaning, we share common papers with students in other countries such as Tanzania, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and India. Papers must be forwarded to the UK centers for marking and hence taking up time. Furthermore with such a vast number of students (appreciating the number of countries that sit for the same exam), it would take equally much time in sorting out and averaging the grades to determine the final results.

It has been revealed that Cambridge would be releasing the results on the 23rd of January to all Education Ministries and students should expect their results anytime 1-2 weeks after the release dates.

    • FYI, only Mother Tongue subjects i.e. Chinese, Malay, Tamil etc and Social Studies are marked locally. All other Cambridge subjects are marked in the UK. You may check with the SEAB or CIE for the details.
